5th School Nov 2022
The fifth CanTest International School for Cancer Detection Research in Primary Care was held at Cripps Court, Magdalene College, Cambridge in November 2022, led by the CanTest Co-Director Professor Fiona Walter.
While in previous years the CanTest International School was by invitation for CanTest and CanTest-aligned researchers, the fifth International School was opened up to applications from early career researchers in the field of early detection and diagnosis of cancer globally. Whether working on their Masters, clinical academic ACFs, or had recently started a PhD or work in a relevant area, 26 attendees were awarded competitive scholarships to attend the International School. 15 came from UK institutions and 11 from international institutions as far afield as Australia, Malaysia and Singapore. Our CanTest faculty who had attended previous Schools took over leading sessions on key research topics and methodologies, and some CanTest Senior Faculty led Masterclasses and other sessions; there were also numerous chances to meet, informally over meals, to share work, and to develop ideas for future mentorship and collaborations.
Below is feedback from some of the attendees:
- Thank you for a very pleasurable and educative CanTest school. I was really impressed by the unity and spirit of the CanTest group. (Kasper – Aarhus University, Denmark)
- I absolutely loved it! Thank you so much for the opportunity. I learnt so much and connected with so many fantastic people. (Nicola – University of Manchester, UK)
- Thank you so much for the great efforts. Truly successful, both the summit and the school. Honestly, CanTest is one of the best conferences that I’ve ever attended. Very well organized, very useful, very specific, and great research connection for future collaboration. (Saleh – Saudi Electronic University, Saudi Arabia)
